It was freakishly hot here today, ok so freakishly hot for us, so we got the heck out of Dodge... I mean Dayton and went to the coast. We stopped at Spirit Mountain Casino to eat lunch at their buffet which was yumalicious but made me never want to take Hyrum any where near old people again. We drove through Lincoln City and past my favorite place to eat, Mo's that makes awesome clam chowder and I don't like clam chowder...that's how good it is. I was hoping that we would be able to eat there on our way home but...well our plans were squashed by my unpreparedness...(hangs head down in shame).
We ended up going to Yaquina Head Lighthouse which is just north of Newport. We first stopped at the interpretive center where Hyrum disturbed MORE old people...they don't seem to like him....
Jackson is standing next to HALF of the lower jaw of a Grey Whale. YIKES!
It was pretty cool and the kids had fun checkin the place out.
Afterward we drove to the lighthouse where Love Machine had to stay with the two youngest because they are to short to climb the lighthouse stairs. Jackson and Sara and I got to take the tour of the lighthouse which is AMAZING and beautiful and it was a perfect clear day, and the view was gorgeous.
Don't ask me why Sara keeps posing like that...I don't know...I just don't know...
Afterward, we FINALLY (according to the kids) stopped at a beach between Newport and Lincoln City to play. It was the perfect spot, not to many people out on it and the kids had a blast. I think it was the first time on the beach for Emily, I know it was for Hyrum. Actually the last time I went to the beach I was 6 months pregnant with Emily and it was not a good experience but today was beautiful, the water is butt freezing cold as usual but was balanced out by the warm temperature. All the kids fell in the water at some point which blew my plan to stop at Mo's out of the water but it was worth it, they had so much fun and it was good for us to be out as a family enjoying the sun.
My view of the kids RUNNING to the beach...they couldn't get to it fast enough. haha
Yup, those are my feet and yup I really am that white. I blame Dad.
Thankfully, no old people to get annoyed by Hyrum, just a sweet dog that showed up with it's owners. :)
One of two shells that Sara was able to find.
Besides the face plant in the ocean, Princess spent most of her time in the sand.
All in all it was a good day scattered with Bub's screaming and crying. I think next time we go to the coast we'll stay the night, even though we're only just a little over an hour away from Lincoln City, driving home after a long day is tough.
